Art Forging Plain Air

From 17 to 24 August, the Third All-Russian Art Forging Plain Air takes place in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum. During this time, a sculpture based on Baltic legend about "sunstone" will be created and installed in the museum's area.
Everybody can watch masters from Kaliningrad, Moscow, Perm and Saint Petersburg working in the open space by the museum's entrance from 10.00 to 18.00 on 18–21 August. Presentation of the sculpture – a new museum's art object – on 22 August at 17.00.
In 2012, the Amber Museum held the First All-Russian Art Forging Plain Air, in which blacksmiths from Kaliningrad, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Sergiev Posad of Moscow oblast, Yekaterinburg took part. In 2014, the Second All-Russian Art Forging Plain Air took place, masters from Gurievsk of Kaliningrad oblast, Kaliningrad, Moscow, Myshkin of Yaroslavl oblast worked at it.
In 2013 and 2015 the plain air was held internationally. Kaliningrad blacksmiths worked together with their colleagues from Austria, France, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Russia (Moscow and Saint Petersburg).
The following objects were created within the project: hand rails of the old curved bridge of the 19th century of the Verkhneye Lake promenade, four grilles for the museum's inner yard doors,stair hand rail inside the building between the exposition hall and the basement floor, fencing grille by the stairs leading from the museum's hall to the basement level, as well as sculptures "Amber Fishers" and "The Gauya Bird".

Legend of the "sunstone"
Once upon a time many years ago, when there were no humans on the earth, two suns rose to the sky. But one of the stars couldn't hold itself and fell right to the sea, hit the bottom and fell into millions of small pieces. Since that time, sea waves have been washing them ashore. People thought of a name for the "sun pieces" – amber.
