All-Russian Contest of Jewellery and Stone-Carving Art

Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum conducts the All-Russian Contest of Jewellery and Stone-Carving Art for the third time. This year the massive event is dedicated to the 170th anniversary of Carl Faberge (1846–1920). This decision is a tribute to the artistic legacy left by masters of Faberge company, intent to contribute to the glorifying of traditions of national art and successful development of contemporary jewellery and stone-carving art.

Over 140 artists from 14 cities take part in the contest – from Kaliningrad, Kazan, Kostroma, Makhachkala, Moscow, Nizhny Tagil, Rostov-on-Don, Rybinsk, Saint Petersburg, Togliatti, Tula, Ufa, Yaroslavl, Yekaterinburg. In the previous contests participated: in 2012 – 8 cities, in 2014 – 12.

For Kaliningrad oblast which is situated behind two boarders from other Russian regions, presence of Russian art, preservation of cultural connections with other regions of the big country are very important.

Within the biennial the following events are organized: exhibition of contest works (from 24 June till 4 September), seminar with the involvement of specialists in the field of jewellery and stone-carving art, educational programme for students of the Kaliningrad Art and Industrial College and other educational institutions of Kaliningrad oblast, young jewellery artists and stone carvers. Catalog of contest works and seminar proceedings will be published.

The Jewellery Art Biennial has been held in Kaliningrad since 2012. As in today's world art, interest in the stone-carving skills is growing and its influence on the development of jewellery also increases, the Organizing Committee decided to supplement the name of the contest with words "and Stone Carving Art".

Categories of the contest 2016 are: "Artistic Heritage", "Metaphor", "Use of National Ornament", "My Russia", "The Best Amber Work". The main contest award is Grand Prix. Skills of the artists will be considered by the professional jury consisting of leading art historians, experts in the field of jewellery and stone-carving art of Russia.

One of the highlights of the contest days will be opening of the solo exhibition of the Moscow jeweller Gennady Lentsov, jury member of the Third All-Russian Contest of Jewellery and Stone-Carving Art. Artistry of this Master is of the great significance in the context of contemporary artistic culture and development of the original genre of jewellery art. His creative experience includes over 40 years. Works by Gennady Lentsov were shown at over hundred professional artistic exhibition of various status. He was honored with prestigious awards, diplomas of the Russian and international exhibitions and contests. Works of the artists are part of the main museum collections of our country: Armoury of the Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum Sanctuary, All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art, State Historical, Architectural, Art and Landscape Museum-Reserve "Tsaritsyno", Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts.

On 24 June at 18.00 opening ceremony of the Third All-Russian Contest of Jewellery and Stoner-Carving Art takes place, at 17.30 – press conference.
